For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Taking Hold In The Cold: How God Met Jim On The Streets Of Fargo

Today felt like the start of something.

Not just the start of a new season, but another reminder that God is still moving in Fargo–Moorhead, even on cold, windy days when it would be easier to stay home.

A Cold Day, A Warm Conversation

Today was our first day back out on the streets for the season. It was chilly, the wind was cutting, and it did not feel like “perfect outreach weather.” But God knew exactly who would be out there and who we would meet.

Our team handed out over 100 tracts and had several good conversations. One in particular stood out. We met a man who is standing at a crossroads. He is trying to decide between following Jesus of the Bible or Islam. This is not theory for him. He is really wrestling with who God is and what truth he should stake his life on.

We spent about 20 minutes talking with him, walking through the Gospel and explaining how Jesus is not just another prophet or teacher, but the Savior, the Son of God, and the only way to the Father. We shared how Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” and why that matters for eternity, not just for religion.

At first, it honestly felt like the conversation was going nowhere. Maybe you have been there. You share, you listen, you answer questions, and you are not sure if anything is landing. But then the conversation shifted. It turned into a moment we knew we needed to take hold of. We were able to clearly share the Gospel and point him again to Jesus as the truth, not just an option.

We will call him Jim. By the end of the conversation, Jim was open to more. He gave us his phone number, and we will be connecting him with our Harvest Team so we can follow up, not just leave him with a one-time talk.

Please pray for Jim.
Pray that he answers when we call.
Pray that he connects with our Harvest Team.
Pray that God continues the work He has already started in Jim’s heart, so that Jim will come to truly know the love of God and trust in Jesus alone for salvation.

More Than A Moment

Our theme this year is “Take Hold: More Than a Moment.” Today was a picture of that.

We are not out there to have spiritual “drive‑by” conversations. The Gospel is not just about getting someone to pray once, then disappear. The good news is that God is holy, our sin separates us from Him, and we deserve judgment. But Jesus came, lived the perfect life we could not live, died on the cross in our place, and rose again so that anyone who repents and believes in Him can be forgiven and made new.

That message calls for a response. It is not just a moment to feel inspired. It is a call to take hold of Christ by faith and to keep walking with Him daily.

That is why follow up matters to us. That is why our Harvest Team matters. We want to walk with people after the first conversation, help them grow as disciples, and see them connected to local churches where they can keep taking hold of Jesus in everyday life.

A Story From Last Summer

Today we also heard an update that encouraged our whole team.

Last summer, we met a man during outreach. At the time, we had no idea what God would do with that encounter. Since then, he has given his life to Christ. Today we heard that he is now a regular attendee at Heartland Community Church, he is sober, he has a job, his own place, and God has completely turned his life around.

That is the power of the Gospel. Jesus does not just clean up the outside. He makes people new from the inside out.

We do not often get to hear stories like this. Most of the time, we hand out tracts, we talk with people, we pray, and we may never hear the rest of the story. But every so often God lets us see a glimpse of what He has done and what He is still doing. Today was one of those days, and it was a huge encouragement to keep going.

Your Part In The Story

If you have ever wondered whether evangelism really matters or whether these small moments on the street actually do anything, be encouraged.

God is moving in the Fargo–Moorhead area.
He is drawing people like Jim.
He is transforming lives like the man from last summer.
He is using simple conversations, paper tracts, and ordinary believers who are willing to step into the cold and open their mouths.

We would love for you to be part of this.

At FMTracts, we have three main teams:

Prayer Team: Covering the outreach and people we meet in prayer.

Fields Team (Outreach): Going out, handing out tracts, starting conversations, sharing the Gospel.

Harvest Team (Discipleship): Following up, walking with people, helping them get rooted in a local church and grow as disciples of Jesus.

You do not have to be a “professional” or have all the answers. You just need a real faith in Jesus and a willingness to step out.

If you are interested in getting involved, send us a message. Ask about the Prayer, Fields, or Harvest team, and we will help you find a place to plug in.

And as you read this, would you stop for a moment and pray for Jim by name in your heart, that he would take hold of Christ and not let go?
