Wow, this summer has flown by! Our team has been having such a good time reaching out and sharing the Gospel. Each week looks a little different, yet God continues to remind us that He is at work in Fargo and Moorhead.
This past weekend, we tried something new. After church, we gathered for lunch and then went out together to share the Gospel. What stood out was not the number of tracts handed out, but the number of real, meaningful conversations that took place. A few of our team members had heart to heart talks with people we met on the streets, and those moments reminded us that this ministry is not about numbers. It is about people.
One thing that encouraged us was seeing a new church launched in downtown Fargo. Some of us have had the privilege of helping with the planting of this church, and it was powerful to witness God restoring worship in a building that had not been used as a church in years. The verse that came to mind was Nehemiah 2:18 (CSB): “I told them how the gracious hand of my God had been on me, and what the king had said to me. They said, ‘Let’s start rebuilding,’ and their hands were strengthened to do this good work.” It felt like a picture of God restoring and rebuilding in our own city.
Later that day, I had a conversation with a man who believed in “a higher power,” but would not say that power was Jesus. The brother I was partnered with went straight to the point and asked, “Do you know Jesus, and what is going to happen when you die?” He then shared the Gospel message clearly and directly.
That direct style caught me off guard at first because I am not used to approaching conversations that way. As I reflected, I was reminded of Hebrews 4:12 (CSB): “For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The urgency and resolve in his voice challenged me deeply to trust the power of God’s Word.
I was also reminded of something I saw recently, that it only takes about 13 minutes to make an impact in someone’s life. This weekend felt different because the conversations were longer, deeper, and more impactful. Urgency matters, and we must act with that urgency while also leaning into those quality conversations that allow the Gospel to take root in someone’s heart.
It is fun to count the number of tracts we hand out, but we always remind each other: it is not about quantity. It is about being obedient to the Holy Spirit. As Acts 5:32 (CSB) says, “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”
