This weekend started out in an unexpected way. Before church this morning, I met a man and offered him a Gospel Tract and some food. As we talked, he opened his wallet and showed me several tracts he had collected from our team, going back to spring last year with the Paris Olympics tracts. He told me he saves them and looks at them from time to time to think about the message.
I was able to pray with him, and he shared about his mom, who is not doing well. Every time he makes the trip to visit her, she has either been admitted to the hospital or discharged and at home, before he arrives. He does not have a phone, and transportation is difficult for him, so he walks wherever he needs to go. Please keep him and his mom in your prayers.
Later that afternoon, when our team went out together, we had one of the most intense encounters I have ever experienced. We came face to face with what I truly believe was a demon-possessed man. I have seen what we call “demon eyes” before, but this was the closest encounter yet. Every time the name of Jesus was spoken, the man immediately went into fast-talking and chanting in words we could not understand.
One of our team members attempted to pray for him. At first the man refused. After a third attempt, he shrugged his shoulders. When our brother laid his hand on the man’s shoulder, the man instantly recoiled and began the chanting again, as if trying to drown out the prayer. It was not loud, but it was constant. Eventually, we had to break off the conversation and continue with the rest of our outreach. Please pray that this man would be set free and come to know the Lord.
Later in the afternoon, we met an older woman carrying a walking stick and wearing a shirt with Scripture on it. We offered her a tract, and her response was such an encouragement. She said, “Wow, I was just talking with my husband this morning about how Fargo needs people sharing the Gospel. God is so good, He sent you to cross paths with me right now.”
Little did she know, she was a blessing to us. Her words were such a encouragement and reminded us that God’s timing is perfect.
We may not have had many deep conversations this week, but we were faithful to do what God was calling us to do. As 1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong.”
How You Can Pray
- Pray for the man I met in the morning, for his mom’s health, and for provision with his needs.
- Pray for the man we encountered in the afternoon, that he would be delivered from the spiritual oppression we witnessed and come to know the freedom of Christ.
- Thank God for the woman who encouraged us with her faith and testimony.
