A Post Written after the Summer Outreach.
Mark 4:3-9 ESV
[3] “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. [4] And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. [5] Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. [6] And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. [7] Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. [8] And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” [9] And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Wow Summer is almost over, and it flew by. We had our Last downtown tract sharing group last night. God led a team of us over the course of 10 weeks to share over 2000 Gospel tracts downtown.
The parable of the sower comes to mind.
We met a bunch of people, and saw in real time how people react to the gospel.
Some ignored us or were closed off, or angry.
Some had some Bible knowledge from growing up in the church, but we’re not “Christian” anymore because of….. people.
Some smiled and took the tract.
Other politely declined.
Some took the time and wanted to have a conversation about it.
I truly believe that God had scheduled divine appointments with the “regulars” we saw. Having multiple conversations, sharing the Gospel, and answering the questions they had. None of that was us but all God led. He gave us the words to speak to people.
I have a couple people I would like to ask you to pray for:
The Man who’s Mom is Praying for him – he knows what he needs to do, but he doesn’t want to because he’s mad at God
The Foreigners – 2 Muslims (cultural) who have questions, and were receptive
The Man with the Coffee – older man his wife died this summer and is open to going to church, and reconnecting with God. He fell away from God years ago.
The man at the shop – he is looking for something to fill the void he has. He was very receptive, but he only knows Jesus as the “charicature”
culture has made him out to be
The Man in the Doorway – Met him a couple weeks ago. He made a bad decision after we met, and we pray God uses this experience in his life to draw the man to him.
The Brothers – we met them day 1. We stopped seeing the younger brother. But the older brother we saw almost every week making a connection. He hear the Gospel, took a tract, and we talked for a bit every week. Some weeks he tried to derail the conversation with others, and other times he was super friendly, unfortunately never sober.
The man on the Bike – grew up in church, but his dad and him did not get along. He was trying to make it home. We haven’t seen him since, but praying that he made it safe, and draws closer to God.
There are many others we met and prayed and I could go on and on. This was an amazing experience. And I am praying for guidance for what’s next.
